New Orleans Saints Signs Two Local Players

Young, Alleman already practicing

The New Orleans Saints' two third-round draft picks both agreed to three-year contracts on Monday.

Usama Young, out of Kent State, and Andy Alleman, out of the University of Akron , became the first of the Saints' seven draft picks to sign deals.

``I'm glad we were able to get these deals done quickly,'' said General Manager Mickey Loomis, who did not release financial terms per team policy. ``These players have been working hard in our offseason program and it's great to know that we will have them ready to go when training camp opens next month.''

The New Orleans Saints did not have a second-round pick, which they traded for additional picks in other rounds, including the third-round pick they used to take Young, a 6-foot, 194-pound cornerback taken 66th overall.

Alleman, a 6-4, 302-pound guard, was drafted 88th overall.

Still unsigned are first-round choice Robert Meachem, a receiver out of the University of Tennessee, and four players taken in fourth, fifth and seventh rounds, including Ohio State running back Antonio Pittman.

Graig Cooper was the Mr. Football in Tennessee as a senior.Graig Cooper was a talented tailback who possesses an excellent combination of athletic ability, speed and change-of-direction skills. Graig Cooper was selected first-team All-State as a senior in 2005, when Graig Cooper led his team to the state championship. Rushed for 2,123 yards and 30 touchdowns, averaging more than 7.0 yards per carry. Graig Cooper can also gained 291 yards on receptions, with two more TDs. As a junior, rushed for 1,981 yards and 19 touchdowns. Returned three punts for touchdowns in 2004 but did not play special teams as a senior. Attended high school in Oklahoma as a freshman and sophomore, starting at cornerback. Compares himself to Reggie Bush. Was called a "human highlight film" by his coach. In high school often lined up as a slot receiver. Comes from the same high school that produced CB Carlos Armour. Chose Miami over Oklahoma State, Tennessee and Mississippi.
